Subject: [PANTUGGeneral] XP product codes and VMs

I'm going to need to build to XP Pro desktops, in VMs. I really don't feel like building 2 of them, so I'd like to build 1 VM, get it all set, then just copy it.

I have 2 XP Pro shrink-wrapped retail license codes, how can I "apply" one to the second VM after I copy it?

Funny, but I'll probably stick with M$ approved.

Hummm: "If you try these steps on OEM media or on retail media, you will
not change the product key." I'll stick with the below...

That looks like it might be the ticket.

**Make sure to run a SID changer over the second reprodkeyed (I just made a new word!) installation for good measure.**

(JP: I use SysInternals NewSID for this.)

Build [the VM with] all options etc. Then sysprep it. Copy it and then apply license as needed.

The best way to go about this is to build one XP VM with all the apps and settings you want, then run sysprep. This will remove registration as well as hardware settings. Copy this and you have an instant XP VM. Of course the VM drivers are still there, so Windows will pick them up and install them when you set up a new VM, then you can activate the new VM.
